Animism comes from Latin meaning breath or spirit and is the belief that everything has a spirit or energy from trees to plants to animals to even standard objects. It is thought to be the basis of many ancient religions hence its thought to be one of the oldest belief systems.
As an animist I take care with all things. I work with animal and tree spirits the most as I am have made strong connections with many. Honouring these spirits is in my daily practice from giving my plants blessed water to feeding the birds with intention.
When it comes to collecting animal remains this can be ritualistic for me. I have many rituals to honour the past animal and ask its permission to be picked up. Sometimes I do not get permission and I have to leave it there to be at peace. Sometimes I out many parts back to nature and leave many fresh stuff for other animals to complete the cycle of life. Respecting the earth as a living thing is a huge part to any nature worship.
